Description
(Not available to Australian customers)

Certifect for Dogs is Merial's new long-lasting, monthly topical flea and tick preventative. It works just like Frontline Plus with the addition of amitraz, a powerful tick-killing ingredient. It kills ticks and adult fleas rapidly and destroys the flea life cycle by killing flea eggs and larvae as well. Most topical tick treatments can take 24-48 hours to kill ticks, but Certifect for Dogs begins killing ticks in 6 hours and kills up to 100% of ticks in 18 hours. Furthermore, it is the only topical tick product that forces ticks to detach from an infested host. Certifect for Dogs provides complete flea control by killing adult fleas and preventing development of all flea stages. It not only kills fleas and ticks rapidly, but it continues to protect dogs from fleas and ticks for a whole month - even when swimming or bathing. In addition, Certifect for Dogs kills chewing lice and can also be used to control chewing lice and sarcoptic mange infestations.

For: Dogs and puppies 8 weeks or older, weighing 5 or more pounds

Benefits:

  • Effective, monthly topical flea and tick preventative that works just like Frontline Plus
  • Begins killing ticks in 6 hours and kills up to 100% of ticks in 18 hours, including the Deer Tick which can carry Lyme disease
  • Kills adult fleas and destroys fleas' life cycle by killing flea eggs and larvae
  • Each application provides a sustained full month of protection
  • Kills chewing lice and aids in the control of chewing lice and sarcoptic mange infestations
  • Can be used on pregnant and lactating dogs
  • Waterproof

Once you have applied Certifect for Dogs to your dog, it starts killing pre-existing fleas and ticks quickly, with the help of fipronil, (S)-methoprene, and amitraz. Both Fipronil, a slow-acting poison that disrupts the central nervous system of fleas and ticks, and (S)-methoprene, an insect growth regulator that kills flea eggs and larvae, are long-lasting and work quickly to rid dogs of fleas and ticks. These two ingredients are stored in the sebaceous glands of your dog's skin and are wicked out of the hair follicles allowing for month-long protection against fleas and ticks. Certifect for Dogs also contains a small amount of amitraz, an insecticide that increases the tick-killing potency of fipronil. Unlike fleas, ticks tend to stay in one place on a host's body, but amitraz stimulates tick movement; therefore, increasing a tick's exposure to fipronil an effective tick-killing ingredient.

For dogs without flea and tick infestations, it works as an effective, long-lasting monthly topical preventative against fleas and ticks - just apply once a month.

Cautions:
Temporary lethargy and itching may occur; if signs persist after a few days of application, contact a veterinarian immediately. Do not apply more than once a month. Do not use Certifect on dogs diagnosed with diabetes or heart problems. DO NOT USE ON CATS.

Feedback

Our two Pekingese are somehow couuntry dogs, and ticks have often been found on them. Still, we have been reluctant to use chemicals on them, having found that feeding garlic keeps fleas away. This very bad tick year made us change our minds: one morning our female lost control of her hind legs, and we presumed that she had slipped a disc, a not uncommon problem in long bodied dogs. Finding that she was not in any distress, our vet suspected that she had 'tick paralysis'. Yes, folks, there is such a thing. She suggested Certifect, as the newest, hottest, quickest tick killer. Within hours, the dog was walking and behaving normally. We have used Certifect on both for the three months since, with no side effects at all, and no ticks, at all. The odor is citrusy and strong but certainly not unbearable, and doesnt last long enough to justify not using the product.

After our morning walks in NJ, I regularly pull 5-15 ticks off my Golden before they attach. Prior to this med we used Frontline, and may as well have been throwing my money away. It seemed to have no effect on ticks latching on. But, this product works great. We have not had one tick latch on since we applied the med. In fact, we regularly find dead ticks in her bed, still non-engorged, and killed when they tried to latch on.

I was surprised by all the bad reviews. My dog hasnt had any negative reactions to it at all and I even noticed my kitten licking her right after I applied it and I was worried she might get sick but she didnt. My dog never gets fleas but she got lots of ticks until we switched to certifect. She actually even got lyme disease while on the other traditional medicine. So far she hasnt had a single tick on Certifect (its the 2nd month)

Yes this product can cause a dog to seem lethargic, however there is a drug your vet has that will reverse the lethargy affects. Also to those annoyed with the smell. People need to be told, it smells kinda citrusy because cats HATE that smell and this product is NOT for use in cats. There are tons of ticks in my area and Frontline takes way too long and the increased positives for Lymes exposure is enough for me to change. Certifect starts killing ticks in 6 hours!
